Meet Matt and Harry, they’re part of the Massey Ferguson Harvesting Elite Demonstration Team and with only a little baling left to do, they can now look back on a hectic and rather enjoyable summer.

Every year Massey Ferguson takes on students as part of their University course. It’s a really great hands-on experience for young people and includes some exciting travel.

When not working for Massey Ferguson they both attend Harper Adams University. Harry, who comes from the West of Ireland and helps to farm his families sheep and suckler herd takes up the story, “I completed a two year course in Agricultural Mechanisation in Ireland. For my placement I took part in a 2000 Mile harvest in America for 8 months, it was an amazing experience for me. I joined Harper Adams University in September 2011 enrolling on a BSC in Agricultural Mechanical Engineering. For the summer of 2012 I was given a placement with AGCO UK working with Massey Ferguson combines and balers. This is now my second year on placement and I’ve had the chance to travel to Hungary, France, and Germany and all round the UK. In October I travel to Hesston in Kansas to continue my internship, working in the test and development centre.”

For Matt, who’s from a farming background in Yorkshire, it’s a similar story, “I’m studying Agricultural Mechanisation at Harper Adams, it’s a really great course but nothing beats getting out in the field with the machines, I’m in my final year now and have spent two summers harvesting with Massey Ferguson. I travelled out to Hungary and Germany this year and I love demonstrating the machines, it’s really satisfying to see customers’ faces when you show them how everything works in the new cab or the performance of our high density balers, it’s been a fantastic experience.”
