Full range of Massey Ferguson balers, hay and forage kit demonstrated at Grassland & Muck 2017

Visitors to last week’s Grassland & Muck 2017 were treated to live demonstrations and displays of the latest ranges of balers, rakes, mowers and tedders from Massey Ferguson.

Over a busy, and extremely warm two days in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, Grassland & Muck played host to an impressive collection of machinery, live demonstrations and grass plots, along with advice and technical forums over a 190-acre site. Taking place over the 24-25 May, this triennial event was organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE).

Massey Ferguson took centre stage within the working machinery demonstration area, giving visitors the opportunity to see new ranges in action in a working environment, and speak to engineers and technical teams from the manufacturer.

Amongst the machinery on display was the class-leading MF 2200 Series of Big Square Balers. Designed to provide farmers with improvements in capacity, bale density and operating efficiency, the MF 2200 series covers all of the common sizes of large square balers required by today’s farmers, contractors and hay and straw merchants.

Adorned with the branding “Massey Ferguson’s Campaign for Real Bales”, the MF 2200 series on show featured the double knotter system which is standard on all ranges and can safely tie up to 30 percent higher density bales than a single knotter system.

The balers have a built-in hydraulic pump and oil supply, making connection to any tractor easy and also ensuring bale chamber doors are not affected by any changes in tractor hydraulics. The built-in knotter blower is also powered by the on-board hydraulic pump and oil supply. With 30 ball twine capacity, the balers are available with tandem axle and pre-cutter.

With its reputation for the supply of straightforward, dependable farm machinery, Massey Ferguson has worked closely with farmers and agricultural contractors to innovate, develop and refine its diverse range of hay and forage equipment. Also on show at Grassland and Muck was the MF TD Series Tedders.

The MF Tedder range features 12 models providing tedding widths from 4.5 metres to 12.7 metres. Each one offers easily adjusted spreading angles of 15, 18 and 20.5 degrees for adaptability to all forage and crop conditions.

Massey Ferguson also demonstrated the range of MF Rotary Rakes, coming in single, two or four-rotor versions. The two-rotor side delivery rake provides the perfect flexible solution in all terrains, making it possible to deposit two narrow swaths, one large swath or a double swath by making a return pass. Large overlaps between rotors ensures a tidy forage transfer and swath formation even under difficult working conditions.

The four-rotor central delivery rake with transport chassis has a working width of 12.5 metres and provides optimum swath and optimum capacity utilisation. This model was specially developed for contractors, large-scale farms and inter-farm use, with simple yet extremely robust construction that is easy to operate.

A range of MF Disk and Drum Mowers were also on show, including the MF Professional Series disc mowers, featuring individual compact angular gears that provide an extremely smooth power transfer to all discs. This results in less wear than a conventional gear drive and ensures a longer and more reliable cutter bar life. The wedge-shaped bar provides the added benefit of a low cut and the ‘Big Disc’ design ensures a large overlap, which results in a clean cut even when faced with high volume and difficult crops.

Lindsay Haddon, Advertising and Sales Promotion Manager at Massey Ferguson explains, “Massey Ferguson has always stood for innovative technology, outstanding quality and a personal passion for the service of agriculture.
