Massey Ferguson 5S Series wins Red Dot Award

The Massey Ferguson 5S Series named 2022 Red Dot Award winner for product design. The MF 5S Series, the smallest S Series model, provides superior maneuverability and high-performance drivelines to tackle any challenge.

Duluth, GA | March 31, 2022 | Massey Ferguson, a worldwide brand of AGCO Corporation (NYSE:AGCO), announced its Massey Ferguson 5S Series tractor was named the 2022 Product Design winner by Red Dot. The prestigious award is one of the world’s largest design competitions, with the Red Dot label being recognized internationally as a mark of highest-quality design.

The Product Design category is awarded annually to industrially manufactured, market-ready products, including agricultural equipment. A jury of professionals from across the world assessed the MF 5S Series in terms of design quality and degree of innovation.

“The MF 5S Series went head-to-head with an impressive and diverse contingent of products from numerous industries to earn the Red Dot Award,” said Darren Parker, vice president of Massey Ferguson North America. “This award is a testament to Massey Ferguson’s dedication to straightforward, dependable design. The MF 5S Series follows in the footsteps of our revolutionary MF 8S Series, the 2021 winner, and proves the value of innovative, farmer-focused engineering to both our ag customers and others around the world.”

“We are honored to receive this Red Dot Award,” said Thierry Lhotte, vice president and managing director Massey Ferguson, Europe and Middle East. “The MF 5S Series has earned a well-deserved reputation as the best-in-class dairy and livestock tractor. A great ‘all-rounder’ — the MF 5S is designed and built to handle a wide range of tasks with ease and comfort.”

“The MF 5S truly is ‘Born to Farm.’ It is the worthy successor to an iconic family of steep-nosed tractors — dating back to 1993. Winning the prestigious Red Dot Award shows how Massey Ferguson is setting the standard in this important segment,” continues Jérôme Aubrion, director marketing Massey Ferguson, Europe and Middle East. “The MF 5S Series blends the compact dimensions livestock farmers require with superb performance and ease of use for hay and row-crop operations. A true multipurpose workhorse, the range offers the right choice of power and specifications to suit all applications.”

High performance in the feed lot and field

The MF 5S Series includes three models from 115 HP to 145 HP. All come with a choice of Classic or Deluxe specifications, which offer a range of performance-enhancing features to suit all types of farms and applications.

The MF 5S Series features the latest AGCO Power 4.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that complies with Tier 4 Final emission regulations with the unique “All in One” SCR technology, designed for the life of the tractor.

Transmission choice

MF 5S Series tractors are available with either the Dyna-4 or Dyna-6 semi-powershift transmission, both with auto-drive. A helpful brake-to-neutral feature disengages drive when the brakes are applied.

Ultimate loader tractor

The MF 5S Series is the ultimate loader tractor — offering industry-leading maneuverability with a 13-foot turning radius; best-in-class visibility with its slim, steep-nosed hood; as well as efficient, high-flow hydraulics delivering up to 29 gallons per minute of flow.

A new multifunction loader joystick, excellent transmission controls and a brake-to-neutral feature makes loading operations easier. To improve visibility even further, the Visio Roof option provides a clear view of the attachment throughout the lifting range.

Cabs on all MF 5S Series models are equipped to a high specification, with the Deluxe coming with a new armrest. First seen on the award-winning MF 8S Series, this houses the MultiPad joystick that controls a number of functions, including forward/reverse shuttle, linkage and spool valves.

Top field performance

A robust three-point linkage ensures high performance in the field. The MF 5S Series can lift up to 13,227 pounds — 14% more than the previous models.

There is also the latest integrated front linkage. Developed for mounting with the new suspended axle, it helps maintain the industry-leading 13-foot turning radius. With its increased capacity from 5,512 to 6,600 pounds, the front linkage enables operators to improve efficiency by employing larger, wider implements.

Thanks to its impressive 20,900 pounds gross vehicle weight, which is 12% higher than before, the MF 5S Series can handle demanding tasks easily, like mowing, tedding, raking, and baling wet and dry hay. Especially when paired with industry leading Massey Ferguson hay equipment.

Complete connectivity

The MF 5S Series can be fully connected with MF Connect telemetry. A new geo-fencing function improves logistics management and security by sending machine alerts to smart phones and devices if and when machine exits or enters pre-defined areas.

Massey Ferguson’s Datatronic 5 terminal is standard on Deluxe models. This ISOBUS-compatible, touch-screen operator information station monitors all the tractor functions and controls any ISOBUS-compliant implement.

Datatronic 5 can also run MF Technologies’ precision farming functions, including

MF Guide automatic steering, as well as MF Section Control and the latest MF Rate Control, which can now handle and manage up to 96 sections, three booms and five products.

Pre-installed MF TaskDoc software is used to create field records, as applied maps, log fuel use, make job reports as well as keep an accurate account of all inputs to every acre.

“The MF 5S Series delivers on Massey Ferguson’s promise of straightforward dependability by providing the technology and features today’s farmer needs for high productivity without being overwhelming,” Parker said. “With substantial power, maximum agility, well-engineered quality and a distinct style, the MF 5S Series is the best choice for work on the farm, in the field or on the road. Clearly, the international community of design experts agree.”
