(9-10 December 2014, Antarctica) The drivers and support crew behind ‘Tractor Girl’ Manon Ossevoort’s successful attempt to travel to the South Pole aboard a Massey Ferguson MF 5610 tractor have been recovering from their exertions, as they prepare for the return journey ahead.

With global interest in the trip reaching fever pitch since their arrival at the Pole, the team has spent a great deal of time fulfilling radio, television and internet interview requests from all over the world, before they had time to get some well-deserved rest and take in their surroundings.

Those surroundings include the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, the original version of which was built in 1956 by the US government. The station is home to almost 100 scientists and other staff, researching topics from glaciology and meteorology to astronomy and medicine. In addition to scientific laboratories, the facilities include greenhouses, a full-sized gym, work-out room, cafeteria, laundry, conference rooms, workshops, music room and two movie lounges.

In between photo shoots around the South Pole, group photos, partner photos, and interviews, those involved in the expedition had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tour the facilities of the station, the world’s most southerly human habitation.

Now, all directions from the South Pole are north, and ahead of the team lies the long journey home. The plan is to take exactly the same route as that used to reach the Pole, and it is hoped that travelling will be made very slightly easier due to the firmer snow packed beneath the tractor’s previous tracks.
