As one of its chosen charities to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of its famous Massey Ferguson brand, farm equipment manufacturer AGCO presented a cheque for
£1250 to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI).
Employees at the company’s European Operations Centre at Abbey Park Stoneleigh in Warwickshire raised the cash through a Massey Ferguson 50th Birthday Raffle.
The cheque was handed over by Lindsay Haddon, AGCO Publications Specialist, to Paul Burrows Chief Executive of RABI. Also present were Declan Hayden, Vice President Marketing Massey Ferguson, Fay Dewey, RABI Regional Officer, Central and Dylan Parry, Massey Ferguson Regional Service Manager for Southern Europe who won the top prize in the raffle.
The special employee raffle marks the start of a year of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Massey Ferguson name. Today, it is a global agricultural equipment brand and its familiar red livery and ‘Triple Triangle’ emblem are an integral art of the rural landscape throughout the world.
“We are really pleased to have raised £1250 for RABI which does fantastic work in supporting people who need help in the agricultural industry,” says Lindsay Haddon. “RABI is one of the charities to whom we will be giving special support as part of our MF 50th anniversary celebrations”
Commenting, Paul Burrows said, “2007 was a particularly tough year in agriculture especially for livestock farmers. Foot and Mouth, Blue Tongue, Avian Flu and TB have caused hardship across the industry, crippling cash flow for many businesses that are already faced with increased fuel and input costs.”
“Since August 2007, RABI has made emergency hardship grants of over £800,000. In the last year we have given £2.5 million to help those in the industry who are in difficulty, struggling to cope and with no savings. This support from AGCO and Massey Ferguson is extremely welcome.”
RABI provides emergency support in times of national disaster to help working farmers cope and survive and also offers long term help for the very poor and incapacitated who need care for the remainder of their life. In the last 12 months RABI has made grants to the value of £21,191 in Warwickshire to full time beneficiaries of the farming community.
“We are delighted to contribute to RABI’s work in the farming community and particularly pleased to be involved with their Midlands operation,” says Declan Hayden. “This is just one of the charities that we will be especially supporting in 2008 as part of our local community programme.”
