More features for MF 6497 and MF 6499:  MF 6400 ‘flagships’ benefit from even higher specification

The latest innovations to feature on the Massey Ferguson’s award-winning MF 6400 flagship models – the MF 6497 and MF 6499 - now offer even higher productivity to users of these powerful and highly versatile tractors.

As part of Massey Ferguson’s constant improvement strategy, which aims to provide customers with fast access to the latest technology, these heavy-duty workhorses now benefit from even higher specifications.

Along with new, modern family style and pivoting bonnet, the tractors also benefit from a new front axle support. This development also incorporates the weight frame or integral front linkage option.

“Providing maximum powers of 215hp and 230hp, respectively, the MF 6497 and MF 6499 are exceptional tractors, which exemplify Massey Ferguson’s innovative designs. Both are equipped with the latest technology SisuDiesel common rail engines, Dyna-6 Eco transmissions along with class-leading cab comfort,” says Martin Wakely, Massey Ferguson’s Sales Training Manager.

“These tractors’ superb power to weight ratios mean they are ideally suited to producing high outputs in a wide range of fieldwork from primary cultivations with ploughs or min-tillage equipment, through to drilling and other top work. They are fast, nimble and, with the new axle support, even more versatile and manoeuvrable,” he explains.

MF 6497 and MF 6499 tractors features:

• Latest technology SisuDiesel common rail engines with four valves/cylinder
• Rugged front axle support with new integral linkage design
• QuadLink front suspension option
• ‘Power boost’ for PTO and transport
• Pivoting bonnet improves engine and cooling system access
• Dyna-6, 40 or 50km/hr Eco transmission
• Transport speed* of 40km/hr or 50km/hr achieved at a low 1,900 engine rpm (*top speed depends on market/legislation)

Powerful, electronically controlled engines
SisuDiesel six-cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled engines with electronic fuel injection power both tractors. The flagship MF 6499’s 7.4 litre capacity unit develops maximum power of 230hp with power boost raising this to 245hp in transport and PTO work. The MF 6497’s 7.4 litre capacity engine develops 215hp maximum power, which can rise to 230hp also with the power boost.

The engines are now encased under a sleek bonnet. This practical design pivots at the rear and rises up fully. In common with all six-cylinder MF 6400s the air cleaner and cooling package now fold forwards and upwards – providing plenty of room for cleaning and servicing these, as well as the main radiator.

Integral front linkage increases productivity
Front-mounted equipment boosts productivity by replacing unproductive ballast and allowing two jobs to be carried out in one pass, saving time and fuel. MF has developed a new front axle support casting that assists in mounting a new fully integrated front linkage and PTO option to the MF 6497 and MF 6499 models.

The close-coupling of the 4,000kg capacity front linkage to the tractor provides a neat, compact mounting for additional strength and minimising the turning circle. This makes the tractors exceptionally manoeuvrable for their size.

“A front linkage not only improves productivity by combining two operations in one pass, but can also play a vital role in helping to achieve the correct ballasting of the tractor by simply adding or removing weight with the aid of the linkage,” adds Mr Wakely.

Front suspension for speed, safety and comfort
The 50km/hr* top road speed, high engine power, superb Dyna-6 transmission and transport power boost make these tractors formidable heavy haulers. (*Top speed depends on local market legislation).

The addition of the QuadLink suspension option not only allows high speeds to be achieved with great comfort, but also in complete safety. The suspension, which can be switched on or off, provides the same maximum movement up and down without impeding the maximum axle oscillation. In the field, the suspension is also shown to improve traction by up to 20%.

Dyna-6 Eco transmission for speed, simplicity and economy
Both the MF 6497 and MF 6499 models come equipped with the Dyna-6 Eco transmission offering high speeds, superb performance and economy. Six speeds are changed without the clutch in four ranges, with operators never having to use the pedal after starting off.

The Dyna-6 Eco is available with a top speed of up to speed of 40km/h or 50km/hr at just 1,900rpm, which cuts transport times while also reducing fuel consumption and noise. (*Top speed depends on local market legislation).

‘Speed Matching’ is standard on all Dyna-6 Eco transmissions and this automatically selects the correct ratio to match the forward speed when changing ranges. ‘AutoDrive’ is an output boosting option that is proven to increase area worked by 10% with an 11.7% reduction in fuel consumption.

AutoDrive provides manual, semi- of fully-automatic changing for the six Dynashift steps and ranges. In ‘Road’ mode the system shifts both the Dynashift speeds and changes the ranges automatically according to the engine speed selected, while in the ‘Field’ setting it will shift up according to the engine speed selected and down according to the load through the six Dynashift steps to match conditions.

Datatronic 3 offers ultimate control
The Datatronic 3 system, is simply the best, most comprehensive tractor monitoring and control system in the industry. As well as supervising all vehicle and implement functions it offers powerful record keeping, mapping and precision farming functions.

Headland application
Complete headland raise, turn and lower sequences can be memorised and repeated automatically with the touch of a single button.

Electronic spool valve control or management
The flow and timing to the spool valves can be adjusted and stored using the new terminal. These are then replayed at the flick of a switch or in the headland program.

Memory
Six complete sets of different information relating to the tractor settings, for example gearbox, hydraulic and engine settings.

Work display
Key information about the tractor operation and functions is displayed on the terminal screen.

Dual Control and Trailed Implement Control
Additional services such as Front and rear Dual Implement Control and Trailed Implement Control are set up and adjusted using Datatronic 3. Other terminal settings, such as brightness, can also be changes to suit requirements

Datalogging
Individual jobs can be logged providing detailed information for example field name, job type, date, fuel consumption, forward speed and time taken which then can be downloaded from the Datatronic 3 terminal using an SD card for use in Massey Ferguson’s unique GTA management software on a personal computer.

ISOBUS Compatibility

Datatatronic 3 is also available with full ISOBUS capability. With this option an ISOBUS compliant implement can be plugged into the special ISOBUS socket at the back of the tractor. All the implement functions are displayed and operated using the Datatronic 3 terminal.

This means there is no need for an additional implement console in the tractor cab. The ISOBUS option can also display live images from a video camera mounted anywhere on the tractor, implement or trailer.

Auto-Guide improves accuracy and cuts costs

Both the new MF 6497 and MF 6499 can be equipped with Auto-Guide self-steering, which steers the tractors in straight lines, around contours or in circles. The system improves efficiency by reducing overlaps saving fuel, time and boosting outputs by allowing equipment to be worked faster in all conditions – night or day and in high dust levels.

Auto-Guide comprises the TopDock receiver, electronic steering valve wheel angle sensor and is operated through the Datatronic 3 treminal.
