Massey Ferguson’s dynamic innovation impetus continues with the introduction of four new models for the MF 5400 Series. Offering maximum powers from 86hp to 112hp, these high performance tractors provide unrivalled features in every area.
Equipped with latest technology engines, the new MF 5425, MF 5435, MF 5445 and MF 5455 boast class-leading power, torque and specifications. The punchy engines, slick changing Dyna-4 transmissions and powerful, high-flow hydraulics combine to provide users with top productivity in a wide range of work.
“The Massey Ferguson MF 5400 Series has quickly established a strong reputation on livestock, mixed and small arable farms. In some countries it is also now the best-selling loader tractor,” says Laurent Pernin, MF General Marketing Manager – mid and high hp tractors.
“Now with more power, plus transport boost on the two larger models, the MF 5400 Series offers customers even higher performance. The powerful, versatile and easy-to-use tractors excel in a wide range of applications. Moreover, as fuel prices rise the new
engines combined with the excellent Dyna-4 transmission, with its low power losses, allow customers to benefit from excellent fuel economy,” he adds.

New MF 5400 Series models feature:
• Unrivalled torque and power characteristics from Tier IIIa engines offering higher power at 2,000rpm and tremendous torque
• Latest technology common rail, four-valve/cylinder engines with electronic engine management and 10hp transport boost for MF 5445 and MF 5455
• Leading mechanical injection engines on MF 5425 and MF 5435
• Dyna-4 transmission as standard. Low power loss design reduces fuel consumption
• New style pivoting bonnet eases access for service
• Steep nose option to increase visibility available on all models
“These are highly durable workhorses, built for a wide range of heavy duty applications,” explains Martin Wakely, Massey Ferguson’s Sales Training Manager.
“While aimed primarily at the livestock and mixed farming sectors, their comprehensive specification means they pack ‘big’ tractor features into a more compact package. Although powerful, they are also nimble and maneuverable with great visibility and easy-to-use features that combine with superb power to weight ratios.”
Higher power and torque from latest engine designs
All the new MF 5400 Series tractors are equipped with the very latest engine technology, which provides even higher performance for every task.
“The new engines provide significantly more power than their predecessors at 2,000 rpm – up to 13 hp more on the MF 5435 and much higher levels of torque across the rpm range. This provides greater performance whatever the job,” explains Mr Wakely.
Maximum power is up by 11hp on the MF 5425, 13hp on the MF 5435, 10hp on the MF 5445 and 12hp on the MF 5455.
The electronically-controlled common rail, four-valve/cylinder engines in the two larger models also provide the ability to boost the maximum power by up to 13hp for transport – operating automatically when 3rd or 4th gear is selected on the Dyna-4 transmission. This helps to reduce journey times as well as improve fuel efficiency.
Ease of access from stylish pivoting bonnets
In common with the other models in the range, the new MF 5400’s engines are now encased in smart new pivoting bonnets, with bold new styling. The new bonnets also provide the practical benefit of being hinged at the back to lift high and clear to improve access for regular maintenance.
Standard Dyna-4 transmission eases operation
All the new MF 5400 Series tractors are equipped with the highly efficient Dyna-4 transmission as standard offering 16 forward and reverse speeds. The advanced system’s low power losses, combined with the latest engine technology, provide exemplary fuel economy, returning some of the best in class specific fuel consumption figures.
Dyna-4 lifts output and makes life easier for operators. After starting the tractor there is no further need to use the clutch, with all speeds shifted, under load, with a simple flick of a lever.
The four gear ratios can also be selected, without using the clutch, by simply pressing a button and moving the console-mounted lever. Speedmatching automatically selects the correct Dyna-4 speed to match the forward speed when changing gears.
MF’s unique Power Control lever, mounted on the left-hand side of the dash, is perfect for shuttling backwards and forwards, leaving the right hand free to control equipment. Operators are even able to set the shuttle sensitivity.
Top technology loader tractor
The MF 5400 Series are superb loader tractors, providing a unique combination of features to enhance operation. To further improve visibility is the optional sloping bonnet, which is now available on all models including the 112hp, MF 5455.
The tractors are the perfect partner for the MF 900 Series loaders, which can be ordered factory-fitted. To further fine-tune the tractors for loader work are the Twin Flow 100 litre/min hydraulic system and ‘Visio’ roof options.
These fit perfectly with the Dyna-4 transmission that has a standard left-hand power shuttle and is even adjustable for sensitivity to suit the task – with slow measured changes, for example, for unloading pallets, up to a fast sharp response when loading muck or grain.
Versatile workhorse in the field and on the road
Since its launch the MF 5400 Series has set new standards in its sector, proving to be cost effective, reliable and true multi-function workhorses that are ideal for a range of applications.
The new engines, with their superb high power and torque, now with transport boost on the MF 5445 and MF 5455, make them ideally suited to haulage work, as well as mowing, spraying and fertiliser spreading.
In the field sensitive hydraulics, now with lower link sensing on the MF 5455 model, the versatile Dyna-4 transmission along with the inherent power-to-weight ratio means they excel in a wide range arable tasks. An unrivalled range of PTO speeds - 540rpm, 540Eco rpm, 1,000rpm and even ground speed if required - further enhance their flexibility.
