Massey Ferguson is introducing significant new features to ten models in its class-leading mid range 90 – 150 hp MF 6400 and MF 7400 Series tractors at the SIMA, Paris show. Along with the latest engine technology, these further boost performance, economy and productivity. The move completes Massey Ferguson’s introduction of Tier III engines and new class leading features to the complete 90 – 215 hp MF 6400 and MF 7400 ranges.
All models are now powered by the latest generation, common-rail and four valve per cylinder engines with all of the tractors equipped to the highest specifications on the market, explains Laurent Pernin, Massey Ferguson’s General Marketing Manager, Medium and High Horsepower Tractors.
“These are very advanced machines featuring the best engines, transmissions and front linkage in the industry and a comfortable cab offering an incredibly low noise level. The machines are functional and a joy to drive, offering performance and features that will make any user proud to own one. They offer to the mid horse power machines all of the benefits which made the success of the high HP new MF 6400 and MF 7400 models launched in spring 2006.
“Massey Ferguson’s pride and confidence in these tractors is reflected in our ‘manager’ customer support package, which at up to five years, is the best in the industry and can be easily tailored to each customer’s need. This is made possible by the tractors’ proven outstanding reliability and high residual values, which are hallmarks of our recent advances,” he adds.

All new models in the MF 6400 and MF 7400 Series are equipped with the latest generation four- and six-cylinder Perkins engines and new SisuDiesel four-cylinder units in the 115 hp MF 6460 and 125hp MF 6470 models. All offer exceptional airflow with four valves/cylinder with common rail fuel injection and electronic control.
These new power units comply with the latest Tier III emission regulations. At the same time Massey Ferguson engineers have taken the opportunity to alter engine characteristics to provide more power and torque, about 10hp of extra power lower at lower engine speeds and a about a 20hp boost for PTO and transport work. The power boost applies at any rpm, delivering higher horsepower at lower rpm than is expected in the industry
The company is also taking the unusual step, compared with other manufacturers, to now quote both ISO 14396 engine power as well as PTO power. This improves clarity, with the PTO figure providing a realistic indication of the tractor’s performance in the field and on the road.
The flexibility of these powerful engines ensures all models have superb power-to-weight ratios. This is a perfect match for modern businesses that require a versatile machine capable of carrying out a wide range of jobs from cultivations, working with front- and rear combinations through to lighter duties as well as handling work.
The engines are now encased under a sleek, new bonnet. This practical design pivots at the rear and rises up fully. On six-cylinder models the air cleaner and new cooling package now also fold forwards and upwards offering plenty of room for cleaning and servicing these, as well as the main radiator.
Dyna-6 Eco transmission for speed, simplicity and economy
While the MF 7400 continues to offer supreme operating flexibility with its Dyna-VT continuously variable transmission, all new models in the MF 6400 Series are now equipped with the outstanding Dyna-6 Eco transmission. This clever, simple design has very low drive-line losses, which ensures maximum power and torque delivery to the wheels and PTO, combined with good economy.
Dyna-6 offers high speeds and superb performance with six speed changes without the clutch in four ranges. After starting off operators never have to press a pedal. There are ten speeds in the important 4-12km/hr field working range.
The transmission offers a top speed* of up to 50km/hr at just 1,900rpm is on all models from the MF 6460 and above, which cuts transport times while also reducing fuel consumption and noise.
The MF 6445 and MF 6455 have a top speed* of 40km/hr, achieved at a low 1,800rpm, for utmost economy. (*Top speed depends on market and legislative limits).
‘Speed Matching’ is standard on all Dyna-6 Eco transmissions. This automatically selects the correct Dynashift ratio to match the forward speed when changing gears or ranges. ‘AutoDrive’ is an output boosting option that is proven to increase area worked by 10% with an 11.7% reduction in fuel consumption.
AutoDrive provides manual, semi- or fully-automatic changing for the six Dynashift steps and ranges. In ‘Road’ mode the system shifts both the Dynashift speeds and changes the ranges automatically, while in the ‘Field’ setting it will shift through the six Dynashift steps to match conditions.
Massey Ferguson Integrated Linkage System (ILS)
Front-mounted equipment boosts outputs and economy by replacing unproductive ballast and allowing two jobs to be carried out at once, saving time and fuel. MF has developed a new front axle support casting that assists in mounting a new fully integrated front linkage and PTO option. Massey Ferguson’s new Integrated Linkage System ,ILS, offers an improved turning radius. Both 2.8 T and 4.0T are available on 6 cylinder models.
The close-coupling of the front linkage to the tractor provides a neat, compact mounting for additional strength, while retaining a tight turning circle. The system comes with a towing clevis, electric connection and two spool valve couplers for maximum implement compatibility.
Front suspension for speed, safety and comfort
The addition of the QuadLink suspension option not only allows top speeds to be reached comfortably, but also with complete safety. The suspension, which can be switched on or off, provides the same maximum movement up and down without impeding the maximum axle oscillation.
In the field, the suspension is also shown to improve traction by up to 20%.
Quiet, cab comfort
At 70dB(A) the new models in the MF 6400 and MF 7400 Series offer one of the quietest working environments on any tractor. Indeed, the level of noise in the cab when the tractor is working is no more than that in an average office and quieter than in an average car!
Complete control with Datatronic III
Massey Ferguson’s Datatronic III is, quite simply, the most practical and advanced tractor and implement control and monitoring system available. The supremely easy to use system also comes with AGCO’s own powerful GTA software, which builds into a complete machinery management, mapping and precision farming package:
• Datatronic III control
• Fully ISOBUS 11783 compatible
• Comprehensive headland management
• Spool valve settings
• Front and rear implement Dual Control
• Trailed Implement Control (TIC)
• Programmable memories
• Video camera input and display
• SIMA Award winning Data recording for easier settings and work traceability• Unique, intuitive software package
Massey Ferguson also offers customers the flexibility to choose the Datatronic III package to suit their precise requirements:
• Black and white version
• Colour with datalogging
• Colour with datalogging, video link and ISOBUS
Datatronic III offers the easiest to set, most comprehensive headland management system available today. Field operations can’t be made simpler, with the control relieving operators of literally thousands of repetitive tasks every day.
Operators can set and control of up to 35 operations (from a choice of a total of 41). The system records every action, including hydraulic flowrates and timings, functions and plays this back automatically at the touch of a button – once at the end of the bout and again to return to work.
When a compatible implement is plugged into the tractor, Datatronic III immediately recognises an ‘ISOBUS’ machine is attached. It then automatically uploads the operator interface held on the machine’s ECU, becomes its ‘Virtual Terminal’ and displays the implement’s menus on the screen. This saves the money usually needed for an additional control box, cuts the clutter in the cab and means operators have to master the workings of only one operating system.
