Quadlink suspension

Quadlink Suspension

By eliminating the fore and aft ‘pitching’ that can build up when travelling at speed, the new standard-fit QuadLink front suspension allows 50km/hr road speeds to be achieved safely and comfortably.

The well-proven Quadlink also significantly improves comfort in higher speed cultivation work –providing big increases in operator comfort and productivity as well as increasing traction by up to 20%.

Linkage and hydraulics

Linkage and Hydraulics

150 litre/min, closed-centre, load-sensing (CCLS) hydraulic system is standard on all MF 8400 Series tractors.

Providing massive lift capacities of 10 500kg across the range, the efficient CCLS pump supplies pressure and flow only on demand, reducing losses and improving economy.

Massey Ferguson’s Electronic Linkage Control, with its class-leading accuracy and straightforward operation, provides precise draft, position and intermix functions.

Standard radar allows the system to compute wheel slip accurately, providing extra precision and control.

Other advanced features include rate of drop, ‘quick soil engagement’ and Active Transport Control suspension for mounted implements.

Integrated Tractor Control System is also standard. This provides for the adjustment of the flow and timing of the spool valves, operation and adjustment of slip control, activation and adjustment of two pre set engine speeds on the linkage control lift/lower switch.

Operator Environment

Operator Environment

Operators will really appreciate the super-comfort capsule of the MF 8400 cab. Deluxe seating, exceptionally low noise levels (71dB(A)) and dual stage cab suspension mean long hours behind the wheel are no sweat.

Award-winning dual stage cab suspension features two settings – for road and field – ensuring operators are always fully cushioned from shocks and jars. A super-deluxe air suspension seat is also standard. As well as providing an excellent ride the suspension and seat also help protect operators’ spines

A carefully designed ventilation system ensures fresh heated or cooled air reaches all areas. Standard automatic climate control allows operators to set, and maintain, the most comfortable temperature to suit all conditions.

Internal cab layout is ergonomically designed, with all the controls now clustered together by function. Again this simplifies operation and eases use, ultimately helping to improve overall output.

Engine

AGCO SISU POWER Engines

Complying with latest emission regulations. All-new 6 cylinder turbo intercooled AGCO SISU POWER engines featuring common rail fuel injection and four valves per cylinder power the MF 8400 Series tractors.

Common rail injection uses electronic control to regulate and optimise injection pressure for all operating conditions and loads.

It also allows fuel injection to be phased in up to five different stages on a single stroke. By analysing the engine’s demand more than 100 times every second, the electronic control unit can then regulate the fuel quantity and injection timing to precisely suit the load. The phasing system is key to reducing emissions while maintaining good fuel economy.

By employing four valves/cylinder, it makes it possible to fit the combustion chamber centrally in the top of the piston. This is fed by a vertical injector in the middle - the best position for optimum fuel combustion. Doubling up the number of inlet and exhaust valves improves gas flow and reduces ‘pumping’ losses. It also maximises the fuel and air mix, which again lowers emissions and improves fuel economy.

All engines produce their rated power at 2200rpm, but as revs fall, the power output increases to produce maximum power at 2000rpm helping the tractors to respond effortlessly to peak demands.

The engines’ high torque level - produced between 1200rpm and 1500rpm – maintains high output as conditions get tougher.

If engine revs fall due to higher loads, the torque characteristics – with 30% back-up on the MF 8450 and 35% on all other models – help the tractor to keep going without adjusting the transmission setting.

Engine Speed Control function memorises two engine rpm settings that can be activated at the touch of button. This makes it more convenient for operators to set, for example, working and headland turn speeds which can be recalled instantly.

GTA Console

Datatronic III/GTA Console/GTA100 Communicator

Now ISOBUS compatible

Operated via the advanced, full-colour GTA Console, Datatronic III - MF’s industry-leading information, control and cost management system - is available as an option on all MF 8400 models. GTA100 Communicator software for operating data management and analysis is supplied as standard.

Datatronic III enables automated operation of complex equipment and also gathers and records information in multiple memories.

The new Datatronic III console is now compatible with ISOBUS - the industry tractor/implement communication standard - bringing an end to cluttered cabs by allowing the tractor’s own GTA screen and console to control and monitor implements designed to the same standard. Full video images are now possible on the console screen

ISOBUS is the standard operating system for the agricultural world allowing implement manufacturers’ software to be displayed and controlled on the GTA screen. This not only saves money because there is no need for an additional terminal but also means operators need to master the working of just one controller.

Datatronic III includes an advanced field and headland management tool with manual or automatic programming of up to 35 functions activated at the touch of a button.
Offers simple control within six application categories from a straightforward main menu

Application areas include ‘Work’ (displays and controls tractor settings and parameters), ‘Settings’ (for setting the GTA Console to the correct brightness, language, time etc),‘Headland’ (for manual or automatic programming of up to 35 headland management operations), ‘EHS valves’ (used to set the operating characteristics of up to five electro-hydraulic spool valves), ‘Memories’ (to store the parameters of up to 6 different implements) and ‘Dual Control’ (for fully programmed command of Trailed Implement Control and front and rear Dual Control).

Featuring simple operation, the GTA Console is MF’s new operator interface for tractor management and future implement control

The GTA Console features a full-colour 140 mm TFT screen where data from Datatronic III is displayed

Valuable operating data can also be transferred to the office computer via an SD (Secure Digital) card where GTA100 Communicator software - supplied as standard with GTA Console – can be used for management of records, analysis of both field and tractor data plus export of data to third party farm management programs

GTA100 Communicator provides a highly user-friendly programme to produce a range of records in the form of jobs – detailing start and stop times, engine hours, operating hours and area covered - to help manage farm operations more efficiently and aid the traceability of farm activities.

Available as an option, GTA200 Record Keeping software takes the technology forward a stage further to enable users to create reports on specific areas of the business such as fleet management, equipment and input usage and field planning

Dyna-VT arm rest

Dyna VT Transmission

Dyna-VT... now with 50 km/h option.

Dyna-VT continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard on all models. At 290hp (315 hp at 2000 rev/min), the top of the range MF 8480 is one of the most powerful tractors currently available with CVT.

Dyna-VT allows operators to select any combination of engine speed and forward speed to optimise output and achieve the best results.

Engine revs can be set for the precise combination of power and torque required for the best work quality, resulting in optimum fuel economy and lower noise.

A range of automatic functions and operating modes further enhance and simplify handling, providing high outputs with the best working quality. The transmission also enables the engine to work at minimum required engine speed for most economical operation.

Now with a top speed of 50km/h, Dyna-VT's benefits are further enhanced with even higher fuel savings for transport and haulage. In manual (lever) operation, pushing the lever forward selects the highest ratio and when top speed is attained, it is then possible to throttle back to the most effiecient engine revs.

Dyna VT's ‘Power Control’ lever provides smooth forward and reverse shuttling, neutral and also changes the speed in both directions by simply pushing the lever forward or pulling it back. The further it is moved, the faster the tractor goes. The lever in the right armrest of the seat enables the operator to also conveniently alter the forward and backward speed of the tractor in work.

Switching to Pedal Mode allows operators to select one of several automatic operating modes - Power, ECO, Forager - where the pedal is used to alter the speed of the tractor.

Power mode
Ideal for hauling heavy trailers when the control ensures the maximum engine output, to minimise journey times.

ECO mode
Suitable for hauling empty trailers, light road or field work. ECO mode sets the system for maximum economy, with the transmission increasing forward speed at low engine rpm - saving fuel and reducing noise.

Forager (PTO) mode
Engine speed is set by the engine speed control at PTO speed and remains constant regardless of forward speed. Operators can vary forward speed with hand or foot ‘throttle’ to ensure perfect working quality or to match swath conditions when, for example, baling or foraging.

The Supervisor dial allows operators to vary the percentage that the engine speed drops in response to changes in load before the transmission changes speed -maximising performance in different conditions.

Two forward speeds (SV1, SV2) can be memorised, allowing operators to set the ideal work speed (SV1) and then quickly flick to the other (SV2) when, for example, turning on headlands.
