Massey Ferguson harvesting at Cereals 2009

Massey Ferguson high capacity harvesters on show

Massey Ferguson is exhibiting the latest combines in its new Centora range, along with its Beta and Activa harvesters at Cereals 2009.

These harvesters use the flexible and versatile drum and concave system that is proven to provide consistent and reliable threshing in a wide range of crops and conditions. Combine capacity is not about ‘headline’ tonne/hr figures, but maintaining high throughputs in tonnes/day and tonnes/season. Moreover, the design has a lower power requirement and, importantly, consumes less fuel than powered separator designs.

Massey Ferguson harvesting at Cereals 2009:

  • New MF Centora – the only eight-straw-walker combines on the market, with PowerFlow header offering high capacity in all conditions
  • MF Beta –  five and six straw-walker harvesters, ideally suited to medium to large-scale operators
  • MF 7245 Activa, five straw-walker combine for farms looking to secure their own harvest.
  • MF 2100 Series large square baler range sets the baling benchmark

Centora features unique eight-straw walker separation

The latest Massey Ferguson Centoras are the only combine harvesters on the market equipped with eight straw-walkers, with the two models – the 378hp, MF 7280 and 413hp, MF 7282 - both available in full AutoLevel versions. All are fitted with the MF PowerFlow cutterbar as standard.

Along with Massey Ferguson’s unique eight straw-walker system, which offers a third more separation capacity compared with six-walker combines, the Centora range has a highly efficient, gentle conventional threshing system. This is renowned for producing exceptionally clean grain samples with low power and fuel consumptions.

The new Centora combines are fitted with the MF PowerFlow table as standard. Tried and tested with more than 30 years experience in the field, the PowerFlow table is proven to provide an enormous increase in output, particularly when working in oilseed rape and difficult to harvest crops.

AutoLevel control allows the table to follow ground contours and comes with automatic Cutting Height Control that provides three height options at the touch of a button. Auto Reel Speed maintains the operator’s set ratio between forward speed and reel speed to ensure even feeding at all times.

Massey Ferguson’s Constant Flow system is standard on the MF 7282 and MF 7282 AL Centora combines and is a genuine, output-enhancing option on the MF 7280 and MF 7280 AL, which can boost capacity by up to 15% in many crops and conditions.

The latest generation AGCO SISU POWER engines develop a maximum power of 378hp on the MF 7280 and MF 7280 AL machines and 413hp on the MF 7282 and MF 7282 AL models. A Powerboost system automatically increases power when the combine is unloading as well as ensuring there is more than enough power for an industry-leading ‘min-till’ chopper, fitted as standard on all machines.

The top class cab features climate control as standard and an unobstructed view of the cutting table through the large area front screen. The Datavision II control and monitoring system is standard, providing touch-screen operation of the entire combine as well as providing grain loss monitoring, yield and moisture sensing and, of course, yield mapping when linked to the GPS system.

High performance from feature-packed Beta combines

Massey Ferguson’s Beta five- and six straw-walker combine models deliver top performance in all types of crops, making them the ideal harvesters for medium to large-scale operators and contractors.

On show at the Cereals Event is the five-straw walker MF 7260, which is powered by the latest generation AGCO SISU POWER, 275hp engine. The six-walker MF 7270 model has 300hp engine, with an extra 30hp boost for unloading. Both harvesters are available in fully automatic levelling versions.

MF Beta combine features:

  • Standard FreeFlow cutting table with autolevel of up to 8% across slopes in widths from 4.8m to 6.6m
  • Optional PowerFlow increases output in oilseed rape by up to 75% as well improve feed in all conditions
  • Hydrostatic four-speed transmission – for maximum harvesting flexibility
  • Hi-inertia cylinder and heavy duty concave
  • Rotary separator to improve threshing efficiency
  • Five or six straw walkers – with four or five steps to effectively move the straw out of the machine
  • Super-comfort XLR cab

PowerFlow table is the high output option

All Beta models are available with the option of MF’s renowned PowerFlow cutting table. This unique MF design provides up to 50% faster performance in some crops compared with conventional cutterbars, and is particularly useful for work in rape and in laid and difficult to cut crops.

The standard Freeflow tables – from 5.4m to 6.6m wide – offer superb cutting ability from the self-cleaning and high-speed Schumacher knife unit. They are also equipped with automatic cutting height control and Autolevel, which allows the table to follow contours of up to 8%.

Threshing is by the well-proven 600mm diameter x 1,340mm wide cylinder on the five-walker machines and a 600mm x 1,600mm on the Beta 7270 machines. The heavy-duty concave has independent front and rear concave adjustment, which means operators can set the gaps to exactly match the conditions, and without leaving the seat.

All MF Beta combines also feature a Rotary Separator and concave, which offers the unique facility to flip the concave out of work when not required for crops and conditions that do not require enhanced separation.

Further boosting output are the four and five steps that are fitted to the five or six straw walkers, respectively. These all feature ‘Active walls’ that use punched grids on the steps’ vertical sections to improve porosity by providing a greater open surface area.

The standard Beta ‘Super-comfort XLR’ cab comes with air conditioning, heating and air suspended seat. The superb, uncluttered design offers a clear full view of the table. ‘Agritronic plus’ display provide comprehensive monitoring and control of the combine.

MF 7245 Activa ensures farms secure their own harvests

The five straw-walker, Activa 7245 S combine on show at the Cereals 09 Event is ideally suited to farms looking to secure their harvest by owning their own cost-effective and highly efficient machines. The wet weather in many parts of the country this season is making many farms think hard about combine ownership.

The Activa 7245 S  is also available in a full auto-level format and both models are powered by 245hp engines and benefit from features that improve output and further increase capacity in a wide range of crops and conditions.

Both versions are equipped with AutoLevel Freeflow headers that follow changes in up to 8% in ground contours. To further improve harvesting efficiency in demanding conditions on hills and slopes, the Activa 7254S AL combine automatically levels the machine across slopes of up to 20%.

Features include

  • Freeflow cutting table with autolevel of up to 8% across slopes
  • Hydrostatic four-speed transmission – for maximum harvesting flexibility
  • Latest generation electronically-controlled 245hp engines
  • High inertia cylinder
  • Powerfeed roller for constant crop flow
  • Rotary separator to improve threshing efficiency
  • Closed bottom-design straw walkers - effectively move the straw out of the machine

A Powerfeed Roller provides a constant crop flow between the table and the main crop elevator. This smooth, full-width feed results in a more even crop flow into the threshing system with the result that less power is required and threshing is improved overall.

In addition, the machines are also fitted a rotary separator with an adjustable concave, the speed of which can be reduced simply by changing a belt and pulley. A unique feature is the ability to rotate the rotary separator concave up over the top of the rotary separator when it is not required.

Massey Ferguson balers set the benchmark

Built in Hesston, Kansas, the latest MF 2100 Series large square balers set the baling benchmark for contractors and arable operators looking for the highest productivity, bale density and weight, without excessive power demands.

The four-model MF 2100 Series produce a range of bale sizes in straw, hay, silage and haylage. The new flagship, MF 2190, which replaces the renowned MF 190, can produce a consistent bale weight increase of between 10-20% and operate at 20% faster forward speeds – depending on conditions.

The four-model range is new from the ground up, combining tried and tested features with new developments to increase baling capacity and further improve reliability. All models now feature sealed, heavy-duty bearings throughout the driveline for high durability.
